Shaun Murphy won the 188BET Champion of Champions for the first time by beating Ronnie O’Sullivan 10-8 in the final in Coventry.
Murphy fended off a late fight back from his opponent to secure the £100,000 top prize.  It’s his first title since the Gibraltar Open in March.

The first session saw world number five Murphy come from 2-0 down to lead 5-4.  He extended that advantage to 9-5 in the evening.  O’Sullivan battled back to 9-8 and looked set to force a decider, but Murphy cleared from green to black in the 18th frame to clinch victory.
O’Sullivan missed the chance to win the title for the third time and has now lost two finals in a row in Coventry having finished runner-up to John Higgins last year.

“Since Ronnie came on the scene in the early 90s, he has been the ultimate challenge in snooker.  He has been the ultimate benchmark for players to test themselves against and he blew the field away at the English Open last month – 98% pot success in the final and he missed only six shots in the match. ” (original text) The champion of champions reviewed his thoughts after his 6-4 victory over Luca Brecel in the semi-final.
The 188BET Champion of Champions carries a £370,000 prize fund with the winner taking home £100,000.
